Art Handling and Packaging
We are happy to lend you a hand with the set-up and dismantling of your exhibitions and your art transport. Although we see that movers are also used for these tasks, in principle the Bureau only works with heritage professionals who can make a risk analysis of the situation. Our art handlers have material and construction knowledge; they know where objects can be held and how to handle them. The routes to be taken are carefully examined and consideration is given to any suitable packaging materials and aids. Safety comes first, so proper protection and work clothing is important. We always look at which packaging materials are most suitable. An estimate is made to what extent the object should be packed and different choices can be made for each transport. Sometimes the packaging material is also used as storage material in the depot.
Depot Design and Reorganization
A depot design is made when it is clear: how many cubic meters of collection you have, how much space you have available and which furniture you want to (re)use. If the above is not yet known, Het Bureau helps to quantify the collection, find out the required amount of space and we contribute ideas about whether or not to reuse furniture.
The purpose of a depot is the responsible storage of collections. When making a depot facility, therefore, basic requirements are taken into account: the location of the building, the insulation properties of the building and the climate control of the indoor climate. For a design within a building, a suitable, workable situation is created in collaboration with the museum: the internal logistics, the appearance, the use of the space, the use of the collection, the percentage of future acquisition and the available budget.
Setting up depots has become a specialism with the arrival of Advait Salgargar. Advait is a physicist who writes programs not only to quantify collections, but also to make complex calculations using algorithms to optimize a repository in terms of space, economy and efficiency. Using these calculations and Advait's programs means that we can work faster and thus save labor hours. Together with The Bureau team and you, we will create a tailor-made depot design especially for your museum.
The Bureau also assists you in making a depot reorganization. We also use our algorithms for this.
Object registration
The Bureau helps museums to process object data in registration programs. We use the Spectrum procedure 'Inventory' to fill in the basic information of all objects in your management. We are also happy to think along with you about any additional information that may be of interest to you.
