What is Preventive Preservation?
Preventive conservation aims to prevent loss of value of heritage by limiting decay processes, without making changes to the material, appearance or construction of an object. In practice this means that damage factors are blocked or inhibited as much as possible.
Damage factors that influence the decline of our heritage are:
⊙ Light: ultraviolet radiation (UV)
⊙ Unsuitable indoor climate: too humid/too dry, too cold/too warm
⊙ Physical forces: such as bumps, vibrations and gravity
⊙ Biological attack: by insects and/or fungi
⊙ Contamination: dust and/or harmful gases/liquids
⊙ Dissociation: loss of information and incompleteness.
What is a Private Curator?
A private curator is a professionally trained specialist who takes care of the protection and monitoring of your heritage with the aim of slowing down its decline. A curator's job is to manage valuable assets so that they can be passed on to future generations while preserving their cultural, spiritual and/or historical value.
Norms and values
A curator:
⊙ Works with integrity and according to current conservation science.
⊙ Takes into account the context in which he/she works.
⊙ Is aware of and shows respect for spiritual/social aspects of cultural property.
What is Cultural Heritage?
Cultural heritage is a meaningful legacy from previous generations about our past. Heritage is not only what we have inherited, but specifically that which we want to preserve and pass on to future generations. Curators help you manage and preserve your valuable art, history and memories responsibly and safely. We help you by taking appropriate measures to slow down the decay and limit the influence of environmental factors.
